Less than exciting looks, but extremely comfortable. Lighter than a lot of Borns. That was a nice surprise. We’ll wait to see how they wear.

Like every other pair of Borns I’ve bought, they felt broken-in out of the box. Extremely comfortable. Not perfect, but never disappointing.

Fits great and very comfortable. The bottoms were slippery at first. Just had to wipe them off. Must have grease on them from manufacturing.

Bought these in the brown for my husband. Really nice oxford style with beautiful leather and great cushioning in the footbed. My husband loves them! Also bought the Nigel Boot, which is another keeper for him! I’ve always lovee the quality and comfort of Born and my husband is now a convert!!!
Martin –
The sole is too stiff and this results in your forefoot being forcibly slapped to the floor as you attempt to transition from heel to toe while walking. This makes every step sound like a double heel strike has occurred. I find it impossible to walk with a proper, healthy gait in this shoe.

I ordered these for my husband and they fit perfectly. He had another pair of Born dress shoes so the sizing is consistent. These are a little less dressy than his other pair of Born shoes but still go with dress pants.
Don –
Solid shoe. Good for standing and walking.
Jim –
very comfortable right out of the box, insole is very supportive, and yet soft.
Mike –
Born shoes never disappoint. Super comfortable right out of the box, sturdy, and good tread for the winter months. They’re very versatile. They’d work for business casual with slacks/shirt/tie or with a pair of jeans. Only one very small critique – they didn’t arrive with any shine on them as in the picture.
Dave –
Shoe’s were comfortable and very stylish, but after 6 months of daily wear for work, the soles developed a crack at the balls of my feet and holes in the heels. I’m the softer/cushioned rubber wore out quicker than I would have thought.

These were very comfortable from the time I first put them on. No break in needed. The fit is roomy.

Wonderful fit, poor support.
These shoes fit my foot wonderfully well. I have a narrow, low-volume foot, but require a large toe box. I have trouble finding shoes to accommodate my feet – these Bjorn Nigel shoes do so quite well. My toes have plenty of room, my instep and ankle are secured, and there’s little tongue bulge over my low instep. The removable insole fits precisely into the shoe and provides a very comfortable level of cushioning. The cushioning around the ankle collar and in the tongue are excellent.
However, there’s no discernible arch support, and there’s very little support overall. The outsole is harder than expected – makes noise on floors, doesn’t compress when walking – yet flexes too much, especially under the forefoot. (Different materials in part that touches ground/pavement/floor versus what’s underneath midsole, or honeycomb/hollow under foot?) The midsole is hard fiberboard, offering no cushion, but no real support either – the worst of both worlds. (The factory insole mitigates this lack of cushioning.) I have several different orthotic inserts and insole pads, but have yet to find the magic combination to remedy these shortcomings. I’d say what this shoe needs is a good shank to correct the overall lack of support.
The quality of the leather upper seems good, and the style works for a variety of casual or even dress casual applications. As I said, these are wonderfully comfortable and well-fitting shoes – I just don’t like to wear them if I have to move.

Fits well

pretty nice shoes

comfortable shoes but poor quality, like the last pair of Born I bought. Stitching has come out after less than 2 months of infrequent wear.

Born excellence comes through again! Perfect fit in the brown (cocoa). My partner is a true 8.5 and these Nigel’s were exactly right in length, width, and arch support for him. The Zappos’ pics make the shoe look a bit redder (burgundy-ish) than they are in person. There is a reddish undertone but not as much as in the website pics. Nor are they as uniformly the same color of brown or polished-looking as they are in most of the online pics (see attached pics). They have a worn, uneven matte finish look to them, which is a positive for my partner. Got them yesterday; wearing on his WFH feet today (pics with his lunch crumbs :-D). My partner wears Clarks for the boxy toe so these are comparable in width and toe box, just in case that’s helpful to anyone. He also said he liked the soft insole and feels supported with moderate arch support as a guy with typical – not flat-footed, not high – arches. Handsome shoe that we both highly recommend!

They fit great and true to size. Comfy and soft, with a modern look in the toe.

Great shoe. Like the rounder toe.

The leather of this shoe was tougher than other models, but loosened and became comfortable after several wearings. Why does Born use such long laces?

Fit and size are excellent. I’ve had trouble finding comfortable shoes for some time and these fit well and are comfortable. I wear a size 10, and ordered size 10 – they fit great. Materials are excellent as is craftsmanship. I have several pairs of Born shoes, and these don’t disappoint. I recommend them highly.

Very happy with these. I usually go for a wider shoe for sneakers, but the standard width fits great on these. No need for a break-in period as they’re pliable and comfortable out of the box. The included cushion is good too.
Rob –
Comfortable out of the box.

Meh. For $120 I was expecting a more comfortable shoe. While the leather uppers will likely wear in and get more comfortable over time, the sole is stiff and clunky and the insole isn’t very cushy. Time will tell. It looks like a comfortable casual shoe but wears like a stiff dress shoe.

Runs a size big and I wear 13 sneakers. Style is great, nice and casual, footbed is a more traditional “slab of rubber” with little support.

Purchased these for my husband, who is on his feet for long hours every work day. Born shoes seem to be the most comfortable for him, hands down!
